Questions Home Owners Actually Ask.
How do I know if I actually need a switchboard upgrade?
If you still have ceramic fuses, no RCDs on any circuit, or the board was installed before 2000, it needs work. Full replacement aren't always necessary (sometimes a partial RCBO retrofit is enough), and I'll tell you honestly which one your place needs. Free phone assessment and I'll give you the straight answer.
How long does the power stay off for during the upgrade?
A typical switchboard upgrade will be powered on within 3-4 hours. We schedule installs to start and finish at the most convenient time for you and fridges and freezers are fine to stay off for that window of time.
Do I need to be home the whole time?
We only need someone over the age of 18 to be home when the power is being turned back on to test all the circuits (ensuring everything operates and turns on). Other than that you can work, do school drop offs, whatever needs to be done and we will update you throughout the process.
Will this affect my insurance or home sale?
Both positively. A compliant switchboard with a Certificate of Electrical Safety is something insurers and buyers actively look for. If you're selling, an old board is a flag during inspections. If you're claiming, it's one less question to answer. I lodge the certificate with ESV as part of every job.
Why is your quote higher than the $799 job I saw advertised?
Because $799 usually doesn't include RCBOs on every circuit, surge protection, or a full CES lodgement, and it often means apprentice or unlicensed labour. Ask them exactly what's in the quote and compare line by line. A proper compliant upgrade with individual circuit protection lands at $1,099 to $2,500 depending on the home. I'd rather lose the job than undercut on safety.
How soon can you get to me?
Once we receive the form or call we can provide a quote based off just a photo of what you currently have. Within hours you receive the fixed price and have your install scheduled within 4-5 business days after quote acceptance.
